One credential, one platform: how Kastle unified security for a 46-story condo tower
A 700-unit Chicago condo building retired its physical keys and brought access control, video surveillance, and visitor management together.
Key highlights
-
One credential, one system – residents’ digital identities sync directly with the property’s master roster, so a single credential opens multiple offices and shared spaces instead of separate keys or codes.
-
Cloud video that saves only what matters – KastleVideo® cameras capture security events and save only the relevant clips to the cloud, so staff can find and share footage with authorities without reviewing hours of recordings.
-
Keyless entry with a wave of a phone – KastleResident® lets residents open doors, grant visitors access, check occupancy data, and receive community notifications, all from a smartphone app.
-
One provider for every checkpoint – Kastle brought access control, video surveillance, and visitor management under a single platform, something the other vendors the property spoke with could not offer.
Kastle looked at the entire building, covered all the checkpoints, and offered us the best overall solution for security and convenience.
About the Chicago condo tower
The property is managed by a leading multifamily property management company in Chicago known for upscale, vibrant, and safe communities across its portfolio. This tower is a 46-story condo building with more than 700 units, overseen by an active Homeowners Association that wanted one modern system to keep residents safe.
The challenge
The property management team wanted a more modern entry system to improve residents’ on-premise security and everyday experience, without adding yet another disjointed platform to the building’s existing mix of security tools.
The stakes rose in the summer of 2020, when a spike in violent crime and unrest swept through Chicago. Security staff needed to upgrade the tower’s video monitoring to meet residents’ safety needs, on top of everything else already on their list.
The biggest challenge was finding a single security provider that could take on all of it. Every vendor the team spoke with focused narrowly on credentialed door access alone.
The solution
With Kastle’s help, the property management team aggregated the tower’s existing mix of security systems into one modern, integrated platform.
Kastle’s smart access system synchronizes each resident’s digital identity directly with the property’s master identity roster, so a single credential lets residents into multiple offices and shared spaces instead of requiring separate keys or codes.
KastleVideo surveillance cameras capture security events and save only the relevant clips to the cloud, so staff can access, search, and share footage with the appropriate authorities when an incident occurs, instead of sorting through hours of recorded video.
KastleResident is Kastle’s smartphone-based credential app. It gives residents secure access with a wave of their phone, and lets them grant visitor access, remotely unlock doors, check occupancy data, and receive community notifications, all from one place.
The outcome
Kastle’s combined solution has simplified security across the entire tower. Residents now have an upgraded level of protection along with the convenience of mobile access, and the property management team has traded a disjointed mix of systems for one provider that handles it all, saving time and money.
“We’re excited about what the Kastle solutions bring to the table. We can now track who’s coming in and out of the building. It’s much more secure,” the property’s manager says. “The residents and owners understand the value it’s bringing, and it will go far in making their lives easier.”
