Yes. Mobile access control lets you leave the badge or fob behind and use your phone instead. Add your credential to your phone's wallet or use the KastlePresence app, then tap or hold your phone near the reader like you would a badge.

Mobile credentials offer several security advantages over traditional badges. A mobile credential is protected by your phone's security, like Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, plus encrypted communication with the reader. If your phone is lost or stolen, your credential can be revoked remotely, something a lost physical badge can't offer on its own. Because people are also less likely to lend someone their phone than a badge, mobile credentials can help reduce credential sharing.

Wallet credentials live in your phone's wallet and work with a tap, similar to contactless payment. Bluetooth credentials work through the KastlePresence app and can unlock doors as you approach, without a tap. QR code access is typically used for provisioning or one-time entry, letting someone register a credential or gain access by scanning a code. Kastle supports all three, so buildings can choose what best fits their entry points.

Mobile credentials are issued and managed remotely through your access control system, without needing a physical badge exchange. Credentials can be issued to a new employee or resident in minutes, and revoked instantly if someone loses their phone or leaves the building; no need to collect a badge in person. It depends. For wallet-based Digital Keys, you don't need to open an app or unlock your phone. Simply tap the phone to the door reader and go.

If you're using the KastlePresence app for Bluetooth access, the app runs in the background, so it does need to be open. However, you can leave it running in the background to avoid opening the app for every entry.

In most cases, yes. Kastle’s open API model makes it possible to add mobile access control to your existing infrastructure without costly replacements.
