1.5 million square feet, one federal standard: how Station Place secured its largest tenant, the SEC
Property Group Partners turned to Kastle for access control and video surveillance built to meet the SEC’s government-level security requirements.
Key highlights
-
The only provider certified for HSPD-12 – Kastle is the only managed security provider that supports Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, the federal standard for securing government facilities and personnel.
-
FISMA- and FIPS 201-compliant – Kastle’s system meets the same federal information security and credentialing standards the SEC itself is required to follow.
-
Three buildings, 1.5 million square feet, one system – Access control and video surveillance cover all three of Station Place’s 10-story office buildings from a single platform.
-
Existing video assets put to use, not replaced – Kastle built the solution around Station Place’s existing video infrastructure rather than requiring a wholesale replacement.
-
Elevators and a 1,183-car garage secured around the clock – Beyond perimeter and individual tenant suite access control, Kastle secures the buildings’ elevators and parking garage 24/7.
About Station Place and Property Group Partners
Property Group Partners developed Station Place, Washington, D.C.’s largest office development, a 1.5 million-square-foot complex of three 10-story buildings connected to Union Station, the city’s second most visited attraction. The Securities and Exchange Commission is the development’s largest tenant, occupying approximately 77 percent of the space.
The challenge
With the SEC occupying roughly 77 percent of Station Place, Property Group Partners needed a security system built to the same standard the federal government requires of its own facilities, not just a typical commercial office security setup.
That meant finding a provider that could meet specific federal compliance requirements, including Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, while still securing a 1.5 million-square-foot development spread across three separate buildings, their elevators, and a garage with more than 1,100 parking spaces.
The solution
Property Group Partners selected Kastle for access control and video surveillance across all three Station Place buildings. Kastle is the only managed security provider that supports HSPD-12, the federal directive that has governed the protection of government facilities, employees, and sensitive information since 2004, and its system is FISMA- and FIPS 201-compliant.
As of June 2012, the SEC’s security solution combined HSPD-12 compliant readers with Station Place’s existing video assets rather than requiring a replacement system. Beyond perimeter and individual tenant suite access control, Kastle secures the buildings’ elevators and 1,183-car garage 24/7.
The outcome
The result is a single security system across Station Place’s three buildings that meets the federal standard required by its largest tenant, covering everything from the building perimeter to individual tenant suites, elevators, and parking.
