From 40 employees to 5,000: how LivingSocial secured a fast-growing, multi-city footprint with one credential
As LivingSocial grew from a handful of employees to thousands across multiple offices, it turned to Kastle for a unified, managed security solution that could scale with its business.
Key highlights
-
One credential across every office – Employees use a single credential to move between every LivingSocial location, rather than carrying a different access method at each stop.
-
A standardized approach from office to office – Kastle built the same security procedures into every new LivingSocial location, so no office was run differently from the rest.
-
Enrollment and revocation tied directly to HR – A direct connection between LivingSocial’s security and HR systems lets the company add or remove an employee’s access the moment they join or leave.
-
24/7 monitoring from redundant operations centers – Kastle monitors every LivingSocial office around the clock, with backup operations centers in place if one goes offline.
-
Access control, video, and visitor management in one system – LivingSocial’s offices run access control, video surveillance, and visitor management through a single, web-based platform Kastle can review from anywhere.
We see Kastle Systems as a security partner that will help us grow, and grow with us.
About LivingSocial
LivingSocial is a daily deals and e-commerce company that grew from 40 employees to approximately 5,000 in under four years, one of the fastest expansions of any company in America at the time, opening new physical offices across the country along the way.
The challenge
LivingSocial’s rapid headcount growth brought an equally rapid expansion of its physical office footprint, with new locations opening across the country as the business scaled.
That growth created a basic security problem: LivingSocial needed a way to secure a set of domestically dispersed offices while still letting employees travel between them conveniently, without a different access method or set of procedures at each stop.
The solution
Kastle assessed LivingSocial’s properties, evaluated the risks specific to each one, and analyzed operational factors such as visitor and employee traffic patterns to design a system that was standardized, flexible, and easy to manage across every office.
The result is an enterprise-wide managed security service built on a single IP platform that unites access control, video surveillance, web-based security, and visitor management into one integrated system. The setup gives employees a single credential to access any LivingSocial location, ties enrollment and revocation directly to LivingSocial’s HR system so access changes the moment someone joins or leaves, and adds 24/7 monitoring from redundant operations centers, all accessible through a web-based view of daily security activity from anywhere.
The outcome
By outsourcing day-to-day security administration to Kastle, LivingSocial can focus on running its business while maintaining a single, consistent security approach across every office it opens as the company continues to grow.
